The hazel tree's catkins and flowers in the garden- golden rain!

January has been a month of change, reset and slowing down for me. After finishing up and moving on from past commitments, I find myself able to settle into this slower period of the year. I've recently started working the BCMB's graduate clinic on a Thursday afternoon/evening , making bodywork and holsitic massage therapy more accessible and allowing ourselves to gain experience with a wider network of people. After spending 11 months studying at the college it is a bit of a home-from-home for me and offers a quite and comfortable space to work from.

An exciting new development for me is being able to offer massages in Chew Magna from the Community Farm's roundhouse. As an ex-employee of the farm, it's been a pleasure to be able to return and offer treatments to the staff members. Farming is a challenging pursuit- both physically and mentally- so being able to offer sessions here that are accessible to staff members has been satisfying. Not to mention it's such a lovely space to work from: free from city noise, the sounds of birds abundant and magnificent views of Chew Valley Lake as you walk up the path.

Me! Up on Rowbarrow Warren- Mendip hills
Me! Up on Rowbarrow Warren- Mendip hills

I prioritise making the most of the rare blue sunny days in January in what is otherwise a cold, short and dreary month. I get a lot of enjoyment out of opening up a map and plotting potentially interesting walks in lesser-well known places. Rowbarrow Warren above Churchill is already a fairly popular area for those wanting to hike a bit of the mendips; what it offers however is spectaculor views across Somerset, Bristol and out over to Wales across the Severn. Sometimes you just need to look out far, feel the sun and wind on your face and enjoy what's around you.
